We are upstate working on Future Cottage, and being itās a No Camp month, grabbing stolen hours here and there to work where/when we can aināt always easy. Yesterday, I was hiding out at Bartlett House, working on this very edition, when a lovely person came over to my table and told me she lovedā¦this newsletterš„¹. I pointed to my screen and told her I was writing it ālike right now!āā¦and, I swear, it completely made my summer (THANK YOU, kind person).
Bartlett House yesterday when my salad arrived, right after someone came over to my little table and Made My Day.š»š¬
A summer that has not felt much like Summer at all. We had RAIN and a few leaks to go with it. A whole A/C system to replace (+ a mini makeover). A surprise visit from COVID (HIš»). And, now Mercury is retrogradeā¦š¤”. But as someone who is not of this particular season, my expectations for summer are always generally low. Like, if I manage to wear a swimsuit only once and catch a sunset with a drink (not made by me) in my hand, Iām winning.
See ya, Summer! Winning with an armful of vintage Japanese kitchen things and a vintage Ralph Lauren rugby shirtā¦fall, you have my ā¤ļø.
BUTā¦in the absence of Carefree Summer (whomst is she??), salvation/solace/sunshine shall always be found in the form of estate sales, thrifting road trips, and regular drive-byās at my favorite therapy spots. Because Iām currently stockpiling goodies for a special project up here (stay tuned, itās awesomeš) AND my follow-up Brooklyn yard sale with Stacy London (September 30, details on the way), Iāve managed to accumulateā¦THINGS. A lot of them. So, it wasnāt so easy whittling it down to just 11 here. But, you know, we do what we must, friendsā¦.xxCb
Tiny Reminder, tooā¤ļøāš„: This is the last week to score your super special August-only Paid subscription to A Tiny Apt. at almost half off. We have an archive of inspiration, a F-ton of good, useful things on deck (some sneak-peeks, scroll down to the bottom), not least of all a secret vintage flash sale AND an Open House party at Future Cottage this fall where a handful of you will be joining meā¦in personš š„°.
1. I spotted these abstract paintings at the Hudson Antiques Warehouse about a month ago in my friend Annaās section. I researched the artist, Dennis Byng, who passed away in 2008 and was a former art professor at SUNY Albany. Going a little deeper into his work, he mostly made sculpture out of plastic blocks, experimenting with different brightly colored glazingā¦mesmerizing. These paintings are less common for him, which makes me love them all the more. The folks in the portraits below definitely approve.
