Everything I Bought At IKEA

I went for one special Stockholm Collection rug (it's WONDERFUL)—and, naturally, other very good things ended up in my giant yellow tote bag, too.

I’d been looking for an excuse to go to IKEA. Not that I need an excuse. BUT…if I did, I told myself yesterday that I needed that rug from their recent Stockholm 2025 Collection. And yes, some other tiny-yet-superb things for the cabin, now that we’re about to start sleeping there (I mean, I cannot even believe it 🧺).

As of today: Our in-progress cabin bedroom. The bedside lamps are IKEA’s Nymåne style, found on eBay gently used (a deal:). The tapestry over the bed is a needlepoint made by Kevin’s late grandfather, Roscoe, featuring his favorite Texas cattle-brands.

More so—a trip to IKEA just makes me happy. Especially during a weekday, when it’s quiet and I can roam the floor arrows at my own pace. I never get a cart (ie: Danger Zone⚠️). Instead, I responsibly make a list of what I’m looking for before I go, like my costume designer friend’s short chic cocktail glasses, an Yves Klein Blue vase I’d spotted tucked in the corner of a home shoot, a good-looking toilet brush, etc. I grab a tote (with another folded inside…just in case 😑) and shove off toward Swedish design nirvana…by way of Red Hook, Brooklyn.

My main goal was seeing this flat-weave rug ⬇️ from their recent very, very good Stockholm 2025 collection—an unequivocal YES—but there were other things I needed/wanted, or basically THINGS that just rendered me powerless in the face of their cuteness. I also need your 👍 or 👎 on a smaller-scale lounge chair (future collector’s piece) as well as some swish rug runner-ups. Let’s get into it…

I highly recommend wearing your favorite vintage Jean Paul Gaultier pants on your next visit to IKEA. Two people stopped me about them, which I very much appreciated! Sneakers are good ole Gazelles, but now I wish I’d gotten these instead; gingham silk top is lovely by Ann Mashburn.
