My Fall Micro Wardrobe
11 excellent things that will instantly make your life easier + chicer. Plus three (tiny) tips for getting your closet back in business, and we've got a few discounts, too!
Every year, I get more and more serious/maniacal about optimizing my wardrobe. Not just making it more efficient, but using it as a filter to figure out what I need most from my clothes in a particular moment/season/life change. More often than I care to admit, I get dressed in a hurry, pausing over something I put on because I’m not 100% feeling it’s hitting the mark. BUT, in that particular hurried moment, I just don’t have time to deal with it. And by “the mark” I mean it fits me really well, feels great on my body—and, perhaps most critically of ANY solid wardrobe piece—it instantly brings something out in me, an energy, radiance, a little happy dance that reminds me again and again that getting dressed can be soooo good for the soul.
Clothes aren’t just things but bona fide life-enhancing tools, just like that fancy face serum and the perfect crisp fall notebook (that fits into your purse:). They effortlessly help us do our jobs in life as good productive people moving through the world making ourselves and other people more aware of beauty, kindness, and the benefits of great tailoring/nice fabrics. And on the cusp of a new season—however you define that:)—it always goes back to that idea of Economy of Scale…thoughtfully sorting and paring so you can actually SEE and appreciate what’s there and what gives you utility and pleasure (a through-line of Small Space thinking)…so you can see what’s not there, too✨.
So, here we go: A quickie closet rehab AND the very best micro wardrobe for the cooler days I’ve been yearning for…let’s get into it!
Step ONE, 2-3 minutes: Before you open your closet. Take a minute to pause and think about how you want your closet to make you feel when you open it up everyday to get dressed or go looking for something. Note what feeling comes over you: Joy, excitement, disappointment, scarcity…just get into it. Now, look at your clothes—the hangers, the smushed sweater piles, even the shoe boxes on the bottom in the back covered in dust. Note how it all makes you feel and either jot those feelings down in your journal or just keep it in mind as you move onto…
