Dude, that painting looks like a Dutch kitchenscape...glizty frame and all...i would have grabbed it, too....glad mom let you park it @ her place...thanks to you I get to LOOK at and enjoy my teacup collection (you may recall displaying them on my fireplace!), instead of them being stashed away in boxes. Just last week i decided to actually USE my teacups...I love them so much and i've been collecting them since i was a teenager, because i treasure everything about the ritual of tea drinking...now i just have to find a pot i love :) that dresser was quite the find...how fun!
Tea pots are always plentiful at the thrift but rarely the ones we want or crave...I am still looking for my forever pot, too. Love to you and Joaquin this holiday and ALWAYS. xx
Thank you for this. I hosted a party the other night and gave away grab bags of my overflowing collections. It was so much fun. But also, had some deep discussions about collections and why we do it. I love everything you quoted from this book. It is so exciting to find out about new artists , designers etc and to honour these things made by people dead and alive. It makes me hopeful for humanity. And also visual delight is truly available to all of us. Items do not have to have a pedigree to be valued. Anyway, I won’t go on but thank you once again. Wishing you and yours a merry Christmas and a happy new year. I love your newsletter so much.
Omg Christene I LOVED you reading out the opening of the book. I can see why you got chills. Magical. It also makes me think that by thrifting / collecting - we are enacting an act of care. On the objects, on the designers and makers and artists and craftspeople gone before, and on ourselves. It's wonderful to be part of the long story of an old item. Happy holidays to you and thanks for all the care you bring to this space. J 💚
Thank you Jess SO MUCH...that "long story" you mentioned is, I think, why a lot of us are here...to understand WHY and where we fit in...thanks so much for being here:))
The hunt is the best! Do you have any other recs for Florida/west palm vintage/antique stores? Newer subscriber so pls let me know if there are any previous posts that tackle this. Thanks!!
The painting…the frame…fabulous! And now that I’ve read this installment I have a whole new way of looking at things. Thank you. Happy special at the end of the year days! 😃
This speaks to my soul. I feel totally seen and validated for all my hunting, collecting, and giving.
I feel you, Jenna❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Joan...I wish I could have been there:)....so happy you are here and wishing you the most glorious start to the new year! xx
I LoVE the painting! Needs a modern frame and then - BAM 💥. Thanks for his lovely piece of writing again
Definitely needs a modern frame...I'm thinking metal or a slightly darker wood gallery frame....frames are SO HARD for me!
