I think it can help also to leave out the word "vintage". The people who use the word often know they have a gem on their hands and price it accordingly! I like when people have no clue. Reminds me of when I got my Ace and Jig jacket off the dollar rack at my local thrift store bc she didn't know the brand. Oh and then the $5 leather jacket I got because the word leather was written IN FRENCH

Such a stunning collection of beauties! It was a real joy to see that you too admire the work of Anni Albers. I grew up only a few miles away from Bottrop, a town in Germany with a fine museum called Quadrat. Anni Albers donated many of Josef Albers’ pieces of art to that museum. In my opinion her work is still underrated, it’s not only a bit weaving by women as it was regarded even by other Bauhaus artists. She is one of the most interesting and talented artists of the last century for me.

Oh COMPLETELY. It's wild how much her work in pattern, textile, abstraction have influenced SO MUCH...I am just so moved by the way she saw the world and the beauty within it...how she translated that.

Thank you for sharing. I had fun exploring your search terms and they inspired me to start falling down new rabbit holes of my own.

I have a “vintage” Saks silk animal print jacket headed my way this week.

Ha my eBay search terms look

Like this:

Man bag (for my 86 yo dad, who had a small stroke and announced that he needs one)

Imari coasters (bought a set -separate purchases- of small dishes to use as coasters)

Japanese lacquer box

Hermes cuff (looking for the one I passed up years ago)

Imari dish

Camel cigarette ashtray (haven’t found one even as good as my own ceramic crumpled Camels box one)

Vintage Mardi Gras doubloons

Vintage campaign desk

Bamboo desk

Firstly, I hope your dad is doing okay. For the bamboo desk, add vintage Ralph Lauren desk to your saved searches….I had a thrifted one in college that I’m still sad I gave away, and the whole upper portion was bamboo. Found this for you too…

We have some of the same saved searches! I learned about J. Peterman from your Substack 😊 I think vintage + department stores of yore is such a good one, because you can find many outstanding in house designs that are amazing quality.

Enjoyed your learning about your passions! I have a navy blue J Peterman duffle coat that I adore- and anytime I find a garment with a B. Altman label when I am thrifting- or Peck & Peck or Bonwit Teller- yes!

What an incredible series - hoping you will roll this one out and do a monthly follow up please! And I have been obsessed with lace embellishment (that Miu Miu coat!!) and on the hunt for a sparkly silver skirt (which I ran to ground on TRR) so fun to see those. The gold hoops are perfection too. I'm off to be more organized about my saved searches (mine lean heavily into dec arts right now) and add some fashion ones. Thanks for your always generous heart <3 <3 <3

Thanks for the tips! Some great search terms to add to the many I already have. I did a Benetton search after reading your post last week to do a little trip down nostalgia way. I’ve also been looking at Vintage IKEA lamps and the like on eBay and Etsy. Such fun things.
