Where do I start? I was talking with a big collector of collectibles the other day and he thinks that Ferris Bueller's vest was THE clothing item of the mid-80s movies and I said no way - Molly Ringwald's outfit in The Breakfast Club for any woman of a certain era!!!

That said, I have always been a skirt person - you put it perfectly when you related them to sweatpants! I travel in a skirt - my fave for a few years is a long sherbet colored striped knit skirt as it works just as well with sneakers and a t-shirt as it does dressed up for a work meeting with a blazer. Tights or bare legs - another thing that makes skirts so flexible for all weathers and a travel/comfort staple. But mostly, I love the flexibility and ease and the sense of wearing something different and slightly special. And maybe for me, it's just that my body shape looks so much better in a skirt than pants?

In love with the 20's tennis vibes!

An artist friend once commented that girls wear shorts, women wear skirts. I've never forgotten that. Also, I love the look of a man in a skirt! Skirts for all!

Thanks for the inspo! I'm going to dive into the back of my closet and have some fun!

Xx

Wow, this newsletter was a serious ADVENTURE in skirts, bags and fantastic blazer coats! I love the necklace stack you have on while trying to make the J Peterman skirt work for you. I have a few J Peterman classics in my wardrobe from the old days when there was a store!

Thank you for showing so many ways to wear a skirt, I want to find a button up to wear open over pants now! And I hope an orange and white striped bag is somewhere in my future!

I always say I have to read this in front of the computer so I can get the full effect of all the links you share! It would be so fun to see all the links as a collage someday -- you really make ATA a r-i-c-h reading experience!

Love the looks, Christene! Currently wearing a summery knit dress with a cashmere sweater layered over the top, sneakers, and a red flower brooch to kick it up a notch. As always, I’m inspired to play in my closet tonight and create some new looks!

Hi Christene! What are these necklaces you are wearing in the last two slides?? Vintage I assume!? I have a similar Monet gold ball necklace and would love to see how you layered yours...

So I feel the same way about DRESSES. Skirts sometimes hit me weird and just don’t fit right around the middle and I am short so often the whole length thing does me in or I look like a Mennonite child if they are too long. (Though this has not stopped me from continuing to buy skirts in a very 1950’s Dior New Look silhouette, including a vintage Loden green Hermes silk number that I LOVE and countless Marni print skirts-- and we won’t even discuss every denim skirt that I always think will change my life but ultimately is a mistake). But DRESSES-- they can be so freeing! Easy to wear, comfortable, they have become by go to when traveling and for work it becomes a simple one piece item which makes outfit choosing that much simpler. I love them. ❤️
