Time to lean in (WAY in). My very stylish friend Tracy helped me road-test the best soft + stretchy pants of winter—we found 20-ish excellent pairs that fit the bill, from chill to fancy.
Thank you for your good work. I wear sweats most days and every so often I think of that Karl Lagerfeld quote about how sweatpants are a "sign of defeat." Fuck him.
So good!!! 👏👏👏👏 I’m currently wearing sweats and have ‘date night’ with my husband in a few hours and just don’t want to change out of my sweat pants…and now I won’t! I’ll just add a fun jacket and boots! Boots with sweats! Love it! Never would have thought of it! Here’s to freedom!! 🥂
Gildan makes my favorite sweatpants - the men’s fleece drawstring Style G18200 in sport grey is the bomb! Black and navy are cute too but grey is my fav. I have tried to summon the wherewithal to spend nearly $1k on the high sport flares but I just can’t justify it. The bright red Spanx Perfect Pant, Kick Flare looks like a promising dupe and still has a fun color. I have the black Ann Mashburn ones - they are my go to for travel - and they are terrific.
Can’t say enough about Everlane’s ReTrack Barrel Sweatpant 🎉 I *never* thought I would love them like I do, but wow. Now, I *never* want to take them off. And usually don’t ☺️
I love this roundup🔥Going to work out my own versions of your dress over pants style and Tracy’s sheer top mashup.
On myself, I just can’t do the elastic ankle. I feel like a genie lol🧞♂️So I stick to an open hem sweat or track pant. My go-tos this winter are:
1) A version of Nike’s Phoenix High Waist Split Hem Fleece Sweatpants in army green from the outlets near Palm Springs. Mine have a paper bag waist perfect for tucking and the split hem is fun to kick out on walks.
2) Universal Standard’s Stephanie Wide Leg Stripe Ponte Pants in Black with Ochre/White Stripe. The color combo gives sporty tuxedo vibes and the ponte is so thick and soft. Honestly wear these 3x a week, they match almost everything I own and are so easy to dress up or down.
I have a pair of mushroom brown sweatpants by Richer Poorer (terrible name, great shape) that I only just figured out I need to hike up to get the right proportion of sock showing.
Thank you Tracy and Christene for all of this stylish, COMFY GOODNESS! (And thanks for all the info/links:) it’s obvious how much work you joyfully put into assembling this for us! xx
Thank you for this roundup! I am super late to reading this whole post but I think was influenced by the IG promotion for it anyway...and somehow made my way to Old Navy of all places (and old standby for tanks and PJ bottoms way back in the day that I eventually had to swear off as quality/style went down) and found these black barrel leg they call them "dynamic fleece sweatpants" but I wouldn't call them fleece, more of a stretchy fabric with good drape. They are a great shape, cropped to the ankle (my preferred length in most bottoms) they look more expensive than they are. Perfect for travel, can be dressed up as needed. They only seem to have the off-white (wishbone? ick) color left which may not read as luxe, but hopefully they will bring them back. In any case, I support the soft pant revolution, have been a fan for years.
